FAQs

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Seeking therapy is an individual choice. People choose therapy for multiple reasons such as a desire to deal with long-standing psychological distress arising from anxiety or depression, or when one wants to cope with life events (death of a loved one) or transitions (changes in role and responsibilities at work, home and relationships), while some want to start a journey of self-discovery and acceptance to accelerate personal growth. Working with a therapist can help you to provide insight, support, an objective outlook and new coping mechanism to face life’s challenges head on. Therapy is right for anyone who wants to improve their quality of life, reach their maximum potential and enjoy good relationships in all areas of life by addressing the issue at hand.

What can I expect in therapy?

Every therapy session is unique and caters to an individual’s specific needs and goals. It is standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns you may have during therapy sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts around 60 minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or long-term, addressing more complex deep rooted issues and  ongoing personal growth. There may be times when you are asked to take certain actions outside of therapy sessions, such as journaling, making lifestyle changes and being mindful of your thoughts. It is important to process what has been discussed and practise it in your daily life between sessions. For therapy to be most effective you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions. Here are some things you can expect out of therapy:

  • Recognise your habitual patterns and break free from them.
  • Heal from the past.
  • Greater self-awareness and self-acceptance.
  • Better interpersonal communication.
  • Strong relationship with self, recognizing your needs and catering to them guiltfree.
  • Better coping mechanisms to effectively deal with daily stressors.
  • Better decision making.
  • An objective outlook towards life.

How many sessions will I need and how often?

The duration and frequency of therapy depends on the individual needs of the client, therefore there are no set amount of sessions that you have to attend. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy focusing on a specific issue while others benefit from long-term therapy addressing more complex deep-rooted issues. An hour-long session once a week is recommended, however, some clients benefit from bi-weekly sessions, depending on the severity of distress experienced.

What are the fees for your professional services?

Due to the pandemic, I am working on a sliding scale, the fees will be discussed with the client during the first session depending on the  treatment they can afford to cater to their mental health. Payments can be made via account transfer, through UPI, or through net banking.

Will the information shared in therapy remain confidential?

In general, all communication between a client and a therapist remains confidential. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are some exceptions to this rule that are required by law. Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken by involving the respective authorities.

Will I also be prescribed medicines in therapy?

No!  A therapist cannot prescribe any medication. However, if the client requires medication in addition to their therapy, they will be referred to psychiatrists who can assess and prescribe them the requisite medication.

When should I book a session?

It is recommended to book the session 48 hours before by making the required transaction, so that I can block your slot.

What are cancellation policies?

  • The client can cancel the session 24 hours before, wherein the session can then be rescheduled however there will be no refund.
  • If the client cancels the session the very same day then there will be no refund.

How is ‘Coaching’ different from therapy?

  • Coaching unlike Therapy does not deal with psychological distress or healing from the past or conflict resolution instead it focuses on enabling one to take action needed to achieve one’s goal.
  • Coaching is about upgrading one’s mindset so that one can take decisions which are in alignment with one’s values, thought process and personality.
  • Coaching starts with the premise that an individual is content with one’s life but seeks self-improvement.
  • Lastly, coaching follows a time bound system with a fixed number of sessions.

How long does coaching continue?

The system that I follow is a 10 weeks programme where we meet weekly for 2 hours, with a specific agenda. However, if the client wants follow ups they can be scheduled.

What is the fee for the coaching program and how do I get myself enrolled in it?

The fees can be discussed in a consultation session.
